Type 2 diabetes and Pre-Diabetes

What is Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is a health condition where your body struggles to regulate blood sugar properly. Normally, your body uses a hormone called insulin to help glucose (sugar) from the food you eat enter your cells to provide energy. In type 2 diabetes, your body either doesn't produce enough insulin or becomes resistant to its effects. As a result, sugar builds up in your blood, leading to high blood sugar levels. Over time, this can cause various health problems, including heart disease, nerve damage, kidney issues, and vision problems.

Pre-Diabetes is a precursor to Type 2 Diabetes mellitus, without nutritional intervention will often lead to the development of T2D.

Act now.

While being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes can feel life-altering, there's hope for significant improvement in blood sugar control. By taking proactive steps, such as adopting a healthier diet and exercising, it's possible to lower your HbA1c levels to within normal range, potentially even reversing diabetes.

Lifestyle changes need not be drastic; even minor tweaks and methods can make a profound difference in blood sugar control.

Based Nutrition prioritises personalized care, partnering with you on an individual level. My approach involves analysing your current diet and lifestyle to tailor recommendations unique to your needs. I believe in working alongside you, rather than simply for you, to achieve optimal health and wellness.

Why wait for outdated advice?

During my study at University I spent time working on placements with NHS dietitians. The waiting list for T2D patients to see dietitians are unacceptable. Once you receive an appointment date you may be ushered in and out of your consultation within 15 minutes, there is a real lack of personal care for individual needs, there seems to be generic concrete advice provided to most patients.

As an NHS dietitian, strict adherence to the established, dated guidelines is imperative. Only traditional methods and ideas are permissible, preventing the offering of innovative advice, irrespective of patient preference.
